From God's word, the Bible:

Behold, Yahweh makes the earth empty, makes it waste, turns it upside down, and scatters its inhabitants. It will be as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the creditor, so with the debtor; as with the taker of interest, so with the giver of interest. The earth will be utterly emptied and utterly laid waste; for Yahweh has spoken this word. The earth mourns and fades away. The world languishes and fades away. The lofty people of the earth languish. The earth also is polluted under its inhabitants, because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, and broken the everlasting covenant. (Isaiah 24:1-5)

This passage is about judgment upon all people who dwell upon the earth. Whether “people” or “priest,” “servant” or “master”, whether “buyer” or “seller,” “creditor” or “debtor,” we see that we are all in the same boat. But why would God have an issue with the inhabitants of the earth? The issue is that we have all sinned (done wrong in his sight).

for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23)

Thus, even though we would like to think of ourselves as “good” people, yet none are “good” except God alone.

Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except one—God.” (Mark 10:18)
God looks down from heaven on the children of men, to see if there are any who understood, who seek after God. Every one of them has gone back. They have become filthy together. There is no one who does good, no, not one. (Psalms 53:2-3)

This is a very serious problem. Who then can be saved? Who can find favor in God's sight? The answer is, in fact, no one.

But God, not being content to reject the whole earth, did something which no man could do. He willingly took our place of punishment. Jesus said,

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)

Who then laid down his life for us? It was Jesus himself.

For while we were yet weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man. Yet perhaps for a good person someone would even dare to die. But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6-8)

Perhaps this is the first time you have ever heard of such a story. The “good news” is that it is true. It really did happen.

What then should be our response?

For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

And this really is the response that we all need to give -- which is to believe.

Do you believe that Jesus died for you? Will you trust in him to rescue you from the penalty of your own sins? Rejoice! If your answer is, “Yes!” then the following verse applies to you.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:25-26)

We will discuss more, in future editions of “Daily Encouragement,” from The End Time Evangelist.
